Today’s Awesome Thing is: 5 Years
As of today, I’ve been employed by The Company (who will remain unnamed) for 5 years. I’ve survived three rounds of layoffs, worked at three positions, and have had six different managers. I’ve worked with my current manager for about two and a half years. I like, admire, and respect her, although I have a hard time properly articulating it to her. I’ve learned a lot about the internet, the world of computers, and a little bit about people. I’ve gained a new understanding of Dilbert, (which I truly had no understanding of until I started working at an office) as well as perspective on life. I’ve grown up a lot there. I’ve met people who have had massive impacts on my life.
The Company is a fun place to work. Despite the fact that we’ve been bought and sold twice since I started, and we have over 200 employees, we still retain some vestiges of The Company’s startup culture. I can wear jeans and a t-shirt to work if I want to. We get free lunch. There’s a game-room. The people are quirky, and have decorated their cubes in interesting ways.
I am very grateful to have such an amazing job, especially when there are so many people who don’t have jobs these days. So, cheers to The Company. Thanks to my first Über-boss for hiring me, and thanks to my current boss and Über boss for keeping me challenged and believing in my work. And thanks to all of my co-workers who make The Company such an awesome place to work.
